THE VALUE OF SPIRITUAL RICHES
(Mat 6:21)
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Ali Hafed was a Persian farmer. He owned a fertile piece of land, but was never satisfied to be just a farmer. He wanted to find treasure. Ali sold his land and went in search of riches. Unfortunately, he never found what he was looking for. Ironically, the famous Golconda Mines Diamond Field was found right under the farm which he sold.

What riches would you like more than any other? Financial independence, good health, long life, prestige? Actually, the greatest riches of all are not earthly, but heavenly. They are spiritual riches. Here are just three reasons why:

SPIRITUAL RICHES ARE UNENDING (Pr 8:18)
"Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness."

Durable riches, that is riches which will continue to last, and never lose their value. Riches like knowing the wisdom of God, experiencing fellowship with God, having a heart that is right with God. These are better than all the silver and gold this world has to offer. Remember the rich man in Luke 127 He was so prosperous that he had to build bigger barns just to hold all his goods. It was then he decided to eat, drink and be merry. Jesus calls him a fool because that very night his soul would be required of him. He had many earthly riches but was spiritually bankrupt. The truly rich man is one who is rich in eternal treasures. Spiritual riches are from God himself Unending riches and blessing are found in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Psa 37:4) "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."

SPIRITUAL RICHES ARE UNSPOILED (Mat 6:20)
"But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:"

Money decays, silver tarnishes, clothes wear out, possessions grow old. It is true we can preserve some things, but we cannot make them eternal. The only eternal riches are those which are laid up in Heaven waiting for the believer to come. Treasures from obedience to God, submission to His will, trust in His loving care, a faithful witness and Christ centered service. These are the true treasures. They bring eternal reward because they are pleasing to our eternal Father. Are you laying up your treasures? (Psa 84:11) "For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly".

SPIRITUAL RICHES ARE UNSEARCHABLE (Eph 3:8)
"Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that 1 should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;"

Unsearchable, that is past finding out. Such are the riches of God. There was a rich young ruler who came to Jesus one day and asked what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus told him to give everything he had to the poor and follow Him. The man went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions (Mat 19). This man thought more of earthly riches than the eternal. God's treasure is so much greater, yet how little we realize. (1 Cor 2:9) "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." Salvation is the door into the spiritual treasure house of God. Rich treasures of love, joy, peace and eternity in the presence of God Himself. Jesus holds nothing back from those who truly love and serve Him.

Spiritual riches are far greater than material ones. They are unending, unspoiled and unsearchable. It is said that about 200 years ago, the tomb of the great conqueror Charlemagne was opened. The sight the workmen saw was Startling. There was his body in a sitting position, clothed in kingly garments, with a scepter in his bony hand. On his knee lay the Holy Scriptures, with a cold, lifeless finger pointing to Mark 8:36, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and loose his own soul?" Someone has wisely said, "The real measure of our wealth is what we will have in eternity." God bless.
