EPISTLE OF 2 TIMOTHY 1. WRITER: Paul (2 Tim 1:1) This is his last letter. 2. KEY VERSE: (2 Tim 4:5) "But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry." 3. MAIN THEME: Letter To A Christian Soldier a. Importance of God's word - mentioned in each chapter. b. Metaphors for Christian experience given. c. Reveals apostasy in the last days. 4. OUTLINE: A. Be Faithful (Ch 1) B. Be Strong (Ch 2) C. Be Godly (Ch 3) D. Be Diligent (Ch 4) 5. NOTES: Paul was again in prison (1:16-17; 2:9). COMMENTS: Paul knows he is about to be executed (2 Tim 4:6-8). Key words in the epistle are: Suffer, Endure, Word, Diligent. There is something about the scripture is each chapter of the epistle: (1:13), (2:15), (3:15-17) and (4:2). There are seven metaphors used in 2 Timothy: Son-relationship; Soldier-warfare; Athlete-conditioning; Farmer-laborer; Workman-preparation; Vessel-purity; Servant-obedience. |
