| GOD KNOWS US (Psa 139)
As a young boy, whenever I
would do something wrong, my mother would say, “I know what
you did.” I would answer, “What!”, trying to appear
innocent. She would say, “I know what you did because a little
bird told me.” I always wondered how that little bird found
out so much and I was on the lookout for that bird wherever I
went. Of course that little bird was my own guilty appearance,
or some neighbor who reported to my mom what we were doing.
However, there is One who really does know everything about us
and He is God. Not only does He know about us, but He also
cares. Only God knows what is best for His creation. That’s
why we need to place our trust in His all-encompassing
knowledge. David the Psalm writer would remind us just how in
depth God’s knowledge of us is.
GOD’S
PERCEPTION OF US (1-6)
(VS 1) “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me….”
The Psalm writer tells us God
has sought out all there is to know about us. He is thoroughly
acquainted with everything there is to know. Nothing and no one
is hidden from His knowledge. In (Heb 4:13) it says, “Neither
is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all
things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with
whom we have to do.” He knows our thoughts, our actions and
even what we are going to say before we say it. In other words,
God knows more about us that we do. How does that make you feel?
Are you excited about such interest or are you ashamed of what
God knows? There is no need to try to hide from God all our
faults and sin. Instead, we need to bring them into the light,
confess them and ask His forgiveness. He is ready to forgive all
who come to Him. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9)
GOD’S PRESENCE WITH US (7-12)
(VS 7) “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I
flee from thy presence?
Not only does God know
everything there is to know about us, but He is with us no
matter where we are. It says He is there. In Heaven or in Hell,
in the early morning or the latest night, on land or sea, God is
there with us. (Prov 15:3) “The eyes of the LORD are in
every place, beholding the evil and the good.” For unbelievers
it certainly should be disconcerting to know nothing is escaping
God’s scrutiny. For believers it should be a great
encouragement knowing He will never leave us nor forsake us. In
good times or in bad, we can always count on God to be there. He
will help us through the difficult times, the anxious times and
even in our time of death. Whatever you face today, remember God
is there facing it with you.
GOD’S POWER IN CREATING US(13-16)
(VS 14) “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and
wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that
my soul knoweth right well.”
Even in the womb of our
mothers, God was there creating and forming us. We are fearfully
and wonderfully made, that is marvelously created in an
awe-inspiring manner. The depth of such accomplishment is beyond
our comprehension. Even our members are fashioned by Him and
written in His book before they were made. The psalm writer is
here using figurative language to describe the intimate
knowledge of God in our reproduction and birth. (Rom 11:33) “O
the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past
finding out! We are special to God. So much so that He wants us
to spend eternity with Him. For that to happen however, there
must be another birth, a new birth, a spiritual birth a heavenly
birth. Jesus Christ came to die in your place for your sins.
Following His resurrection He said all who believe in Him have
everlasting life. When you commit yourself to His finished work
for your salvation, He gives new birth. (John 1:12) “As many
as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of
God, even to them that believe on his name:”
In the early days of the
automobile a man's Model-T Ford stalled in the middle of the
road. He couldn't get it started no matter how hard he cranked
nor how much he tried to advance the spark or adjust things
under the hood. Just then a chauffeured limousine pulled up
behind him, and a wiry, energetic man stepped out from the back
seat and offered his assistance. After tinkering for a few
moments the stranger said, "Now try it!" Immediately
the engine leaped to life. The well-dressed individual then
identified himself as Henry Ford. "I designed and built
these cars," he said, "so I know what to do when
something goes wrong." God, as our creator knows exactly
what to do in our time of need. Is there something in your life
that needs to be fixed? Bring it to Him. God bless. |
