SPREAD THE WORD

(Romans 10:13-17)
(14) "How shall they hear without a preacher?"

Domino's Pizza is a successful company. They have a clearly defined statement of mission: To deliver a high-quality pizza, hot, within 30 minutes at a fair price." Everything is centered on that goal. What is the church’s goal for reaching a lost world? In our text, Paul shares the heart of God in outreach. God has chosen to save all who put their trust in His Son Jesus Christ. Yet, how can they believe unless someone is sent to preach the word of truth? Here’s how Paul says we are to spread the word? First we look to

THE PROMISE OF GOD (13)
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

The promise of God is for all. Whosoever means anyone who is interested in salvation, wants to escape from coming judgment and will put their trust in Jesus Christ, can be saved. There is only one Savior and one plan of salvation. Many are trying to please God by attending church, tithing their money or doing the best they can to keep God’s commandments. As good as these things may be, they fall short of salvation. Romans 10:9,10 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is essential. Without Him all else is insignificant. Have you put your trust in Jesus? “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Pet 3:10) With this promise we also have

THE PLAN OF GOD (14)
"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?"

In order to respond to God’s promise there is a need for faith, the word of God and the man of God. You cannot trust someone if you don’t know who He is and what He did and you cannot believe if you never hear. God’s word provides the solid foundation of facts. Our purpose is to reach out with the good news of salvation telling others how trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior brings eternal life. The plan of God is for us to preach the word. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Mat 28:19,20) Preaching and teaching the word is the plan of God. Notice this next step

THE PROCLAMATION OF GOD (15)
"And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

Here Paul tells of the need of messengers being sent out to proclaim the good news. With that thought in mind, he quotes Isaiah 52:7 in which the prophet speaks of the coming blessings to His people. Notice the gospel is glad tidings of good things. It is the gospel of peace. Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Rom 1:16) We have good news concerning the promises and the plan of God. He sent His Son to die for our sins. Jesus rose on the third day and all who accept Him as their sin bearer can have sins forgiven. Indeed that’s good news. All this is based on

THE PRECEPTS OF GOD (17)
"So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

We have already mentioned the importance of faith. “Without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.“ (Heb 11:6) Yet many today have the wrong idea of what faith is. It is not a hope so but a know so. It is based on the word of God His word never changes, and will never pass away. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Mat 24:35) The certainty of our salvation is based on the authority of the word of God. It is hearing and obeying God’s word that tells of the only Savior for all mankind, the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you sharing that word?

A man placed a piece of chocolate candy on a table. Then, picking up an ant, he put it near it. He saw the ant take a single bite and then hurry off to inform the rest of the colony. Soon the ant returned, followed by a long train of other ants who enjoyed the treat also. Those of us who have tasted that the Lord is good can learn a lesson from that little insect. Having found God's rich supply of grace in Christ Jesus, let’s spread the good news to others. The salvation of God based on His Promise, Plan, Proclamation and Precepts. God bless.
