HAPPY NEW YEAR

(Prov. 16:20) ”... and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.”

Can you believe! Another year has come and gone. 1997 will offer it’s share of challenges, disappointments, joys and surprises. How will you face this new year? The Bible has the key to happiness. To be truly H-A-P-P-Y, may I suggest the following goals:

H- HALLOW GOD IN YOUR HEART
(Psa 144:15) “... yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.”
Happy means a state of joy or rejoicing. To hallow God the LORD, is to give Him the proper place in our life. A place of reverence and a place of honor. Worship is not only our privilege, it is our duty. We were created to bring God glory. But, not only are we to worship God, we are to serve Him. He is the Master, we are His servants. What better time that at the beginning of a new year to recommit ourselves to His service.

A- ABOUND IN GOOD WORKS
(2 Cor 12:15) “And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you;”
Note the phrase “spend and be spent”. In the NIV it is translated, “spend for you everything I have and expend myself as well.” Paul was willing to give himself as well as what he had to others. How willing are we? Real joy comes from giving. Someone has well said, “It is not what we take, but what we give that makes us truly rich.” Doing for others expands our happiness. Encouraging others, showing interest and sharing with them, increases our own joy as well as that of others.

P- PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS
(Phil 2:16) “Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”
The good news is Jesus. He is the one all of us need for salvation, and He is willing to give the gift of life to whosoever will call upon His name. Jesus said, (John 6:47) “Verily, verily I say unto you. He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life”. We proclaim the good news not only by what we say, but also by what we do. Are you showing Jesus to others by your life as well as with your lips?

P- PERSEVERE IN ALL THINGS
(James 5:11) “Behold, we count them happy which endure”
The word “happy” means blessed, and “endure” is to continue firm or remain constant. Real blessing comes from a firm, unshakeable trust in God. Too often we let circumstances dictate our feelings, but only as we are willing to look to Him, can we remain firm and steadfast. Some try to blame God for times of trial and persecution, rather draw near to Him and let Him show you His love. Satan desires to draw us away from God. The Bible encourages us to resist the Devil and draw nigh to God, (James 4:8).

Y- YIELD YOURSELF TO GOD'S WILL
(Rom 15:32) “That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.”
The word “will” here means a resolve, or purpose. True joy and happiness comes from our commitment to follow the will or purpose of God for our lives. God has a design for your life. In fact, His is the best plan of all. Are you willing to leave the choice with Him? Yielding to God brings real purpose, direction and blessing. Ask God to reveal His plan for you in this coming year, and then to see you through as you commit yourself to it.

Francis Ridley Havergal wrote:
Another year is dawning, Dear Master, let it be,
In working or in waiting, Another year with Thee.
Another year of progress, Another year of praise,
Another year of proving Thy presence all the days.
Another year is dawning, Dear Master let it be
On earth or else in Heaven, another year for Thee.

These are the steps to a really HAPPY New Year. May God bless you and your family with a spiritually prosperous New Year to His honor and glory. God bless.
