HE IS NOT HERE

Matthew 28:5-7
“And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.”

The women had gone to the tomb of Jesus early Sunday morning following the Sabbath. They were on a mission of love desiring to properly anoint the body of Jesus in His death. What they found however was beyond their wildest expectations. An angel, arrayed in white, sitting on a stone, that had been moved from the front of Jesus’ grave and announcing the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The angel’s words of hope and encouragement are words for us today:

COME AND SEE
“Come see the place where the Lord lay”

Christianity is not based on philosophical rhetoric but on historical reality. The generation of Jesus day was invited to come and see the proof of His resurrection even as we are today. See the stone removed from the grave. A huge stone, guarded by Roman soldiers, yet rolled away from the mouth of the tomb in which Jesus had been. It was removed, so we could see in, Jesus was already gone. There was no dead body but a risen, resurrected Savior and an empty grave. The angel said, “See the place where He lay.” “Why seek ye the living among the dead?” (Luke 24:5) The prophecy of Jesus, to His disciples, regarding His resurrection, on numerous occasions, now fulfilled (Mat 20:19; Mark 9:31; Luke 13:32; etc.). Come and see. Jesus has defeated death for all who place their trust in His finished sacrifice for sin. He is the Firstfruits of our own resurrection. (1 Cor 15:20, 23) “As I live, you too shall live.”(John 14:19) Have you come? Check out the evidence. He is alive. Our commitment to Him and His finished work of salvation guarantees we too will rise up from the grave or if we are still alive when He comes, rise in the air to meet Him in the clouds and so shall we ever be with the Lord.(1 Thes 4:16, 17) The fear of death is overcome. The angel said, “Be not afraid”. “O death where is your sting, O grave where is your victory. Thanks be unto God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15:55, 57). How can we keep so great salvation to ourselves? All who have come and seen the resurrected Christ themselves and committed their lives to Him are now encouraged to be testimonies to His grace.

GO AND TELL
“Go quickly and tell”

Christ has conquered death. How can we keep such good news to ourselves? Everybody needs to know so they too can share in Christ’s victory. Go and tell your family, your friends, your neighbors, your enemies, everybody! We are ambassadors for Christ. Are you saved? Then your responsibility is to be a testimony to others. I believe the only reason God has left us here on earth is to be such a testimony. Otherwise, why would He not translate all who believe to His kingdom in Heaven immediately? Note we are to tell others “quickly”. “Now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor 6:2). This is the age of grace. We know not the day or hour in which our Lord will return. Work for the night is coming when no man can work (John 9:4). Don’t delay share Jesus with everybody. The greatest message in the world needs to be shared with the greatest haste. Are you sharing the Light. Are you telling others about Jesus? Jesus told His disciples even as He tells us, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and Lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age.”(Mat 28:19,20) There is no need to fear the reaction of those who know not Christ. Jesus is with us. There is no need to feel guilty because some will not respond to the message. Salvation is a work of God not us. We are to tell others and let God do the rest. Do you know how to share your faith with others? It’s not difficult. Tell them what Jesus has done for you. He died in your place for your sins. His resurrection is God’s way of saying our sins are forgiven if and when we commit our life to Him. Tell others what He has done for you and what He will do for them if they will trust in Him.

A letter came from Health and Human Services to a resident of Greenville County, South Carolina: "Your food stamps will be stopped, effective March 1992, because we received notice that you passed away. May God bless you. You may reapply if your circumstances change." Well now, the good news of salvation is we can be changed. Thank God for His plan that makes possible eternal life through Christ. If you have never done it before, “Come and see”, then “Go and tell”, for that is the real meaning of Easter. Jesus Christ has conquered death. Don’t let chocolate bunnies, Easter eggs, jelly beans, baskets, bonnets or new clothes take away the real meaning. He is alive! Happy Resurrection Day. God bless.
